Overall Purpose of Job


We have a leading Planning, Development and Regeneration team operating throughout the UK and are seeking Graduate Planners to provide high quality planning advice and support to a variety of Private and public sector clients, as well as business support to colleagues and senior management.


Main Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities


Main duties include:


  • Involvement in complex development plan and/or policy issues.
  • Planning application processing (end to end).
  • Assistance in negotiating planning contributions, and formulating development strategies and masterplans.
  • Preparing planning appraisals and writing complex reports.
  • Assistance on public consultations with preparatory materials and attendance at public
  • Research / keeping informed of documents related to planning policy and procedure and
  • advising / summarising implications for colleagues, and company literature.
  • Gather, interpret and assimilate data for analytical assessment of information.
  • Research on live applications, development plans, supplementary guidance and other critical
  • information for client reports.
  • Assistance in drawing up, presenting and negotiating competitive proposals with clients.
  • Monitoring planning committee and other hearings.
  • Liaising with other GVA teams and providing ad hoc planning advice.


In addition to the duties listed above, the successful graduate may be required to carry out other duties as reasonably required.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience


The successful candidate should have the following skills and experience:


  • Strong team working skills.
  • IT literate in Microsoft Office, Excel, and ideally some GIS experience.
  • Be able to adapt to dealing with a variety of clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strives to deliver excellent client service at all times.
  • Detail conscious and accurate.
  • Strong planning and organising skills.
  • Drive and enthusiasm for planning and the property world in general.
  • Presentable with good presentation skills.
  • Thrives under pressure and can work to tight deadlines.
  • Awareness of GVA and the PDR team.
  • Detailed knowledge of the British Town Planning system.
  • Being able to deliver focused and creative solutions to problems
  • Willingness to learn
  • Excellent listening skills
