Overall Purpose of Job

We are looking to employ a highly skilled chartered Quantity Surveying professional. Ideally previous experience should have been gained within a consultancy organisation. You are willing and able to work within a team environment and independently. You will have excellent commercial experience and will work on a portfolio of challenging projects. You will be highly motivated and will have a proven ability to provide a high quality service to clients. Main Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Cost Consultancy, Bank Monitoring and Development:   You will need to be able to demonstrate experience of the Procurement and Development process through feasibility to practical completion, whilst providing accurate and up to date costing information. You will be analytical, have a flair for numerical data and be prepared to assume responsibility from Procurement to final account.  

Cost Consultancy:   
 
Manage creation of initial and subsequent cost estimates for the construction and associated costs of specified projects;      
Administer and prepare progress payments throughout the duration of the project and final accounts at completion;  
Advise on and prepare appropriate forms of contract documentation to ensure that clients’ interests are protected at all times;       
Undertake QS pre and post contract roles for project related work;      
Provide EA, PM, CA services as may be required for project related work;       
Manage the financial aspects of the building contract and advise on so the work can be approved where necessary and the budget/payments are amended accordingly;       Monitor cash flow and expenditure against approved budgets ensuring any shortfall is fully explained and appropriate supplemental budgets applied for and obtained;    Create and maintain database of project and elemental costs for use in future budgeting and provide initial budget advice;  
Provide cost advisory support to Building and other business units and support cross team proposals/tenders;
Undertake RCAs for Building and other business units including Corporate Recovery and Valuation, the latter being of some large scale assessments of properties/portfolios in the UK and abroad; and
Work alongside other business units to maximise Building opportunities.  

Bank Monitoring:  

Manage and undertake regional development monitoring projects originating from GVA’s national panel status    
Undertaking the initial development appraisal, risk analysis and cost plan reviews etc. for banks/funders;     
Work alongside other GVA specialists in the preparation of development appraisals; ·        Undertaking regular site inspections, attending progress meetings and report to the funder; and     
Approve valuation and drawdowns.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS)     
Varied experience in construction sectors including commercial, residential, retail and mixed use schemes;
Ability to demonstrate core QS skills and operate in a commercial context such as preparation of estimates, cost plans, budgets, cashflow forecasts, RCAs, interim and final accounts, valuations and payment certificates etc.;     
Demonstrate previous team membership roles and specific areas of individual responsibility;    
Experience in different project types including new build, refurbishment, fit out to Cat A and Cat B, extensions/alterations, demolition and changes of use;    
Experience of assisting as bank monitoring surveyor;     
Client facing with good relationship-building/networking skills;       
Driven and self-starter;     
Can gain credibility in a short space of time;      
Excellent communication skills;     
Good presentation and client skills;
Ability to work unsupervised;     
Analytical;
Experience/knowledge of all of the major Forms of Building Contracts;    
Knowledge of forms of appointments and collateral warranties; and
Cost experience of a wide range of buildings.
