Overall Purpose of Job


GVA’s Telecoms is the leading firm of property consultants providing a comprehensive range of property solutions to UK telecoms operators.


Our specialist and multi-disciplinary teams work together to provide a full range of property-related services including agency, planning, property management, business rates, lease renewals and rent reviews.


An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Surveyor in Glasgow to major on the rating aspects of our service delivery.  The team deals with all aspects of the business rate service from strategic advice, appraisal, appeals and the industry’s leading test cases.


Main Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities


The successful candidate will take responsibility for their own client portfolio and will be working alongside senior colleagues and directors.


The incumbent will undertake negotiations on rates mitigations issues with both Assessors and Councils and liaise closely with colleagues to develop and pursue fee generation opportunities.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic advice
  • Developing rates mitigation initiatives
  • Negotiating with both Assessors and Councils
  • Working closely with existing team members
  • Playing a full part within an energetic and sociable team.
  • Researching assessments, comparable evidence and analysing rental information.
  • Identifying opportunities to secure rate savings.
  • Appeal recommendations.
  • Assisting with the preparation of cases to Valuation Appeal Committee.
  • Other general property and rating related duties to assist the team.
  • Assisting with client meetings, negotiations and participate in client marketing events if appropriate.
  • Calculating rate savings and preparing client reports.
  • Liaising with clients


Given the cyclical nature of Scottish rating, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to broaden his/her range of skills to include landlord and tenant negotiations on a range of client projects.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience


The successful applicant will be a proactive, ambitious and motivated individual and must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A detailed understanding of Rating Appeal processes and procedures and Rating Statute and Legislation
  • MRICS qualification
  • Commercial Aware.
  • Good business Skills.
  • A desire to learn, work within a successful team and have the desire to grow within a highly respected division
  • A proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Client focused attitude.
  • Personable approach
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Drive and enthusiasm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
