Overall Purpose of Job

GVA are looking to recruit an Associate to join their Planning, Development and Regeneration team in Manchester to cover the North West region. The role is focused within the Development and Regeneration side of the business.   The role will offer the right candidate a great career opportunity to work within a busy and successful team with significant growth ambitions, and an established reputation within the market. This is an exciting time for the GVA business, under new ownership with a commitment to investment to enable growth in response to market opportunities.   The identified role exists as a result of the need to resource existing clients and projects, and to support expansion in the North West region.   Projects are often large and complex in their nature, and invariably require cross-consultancy support from within PDR (including GVA Real Estate Finance, Investment Partnerships, Regeneration and Spatial Planning, Compulsory Purchase and Planning) and across GVA more widely.    The majority of the team’s clients are public sector, principally local government or government agencies, in addition to private sector clients looking to undertake development projects in partnership with the public sector.     The work will include providing general and strategic advice to clients across the North West covering residential, commercial and mixed use development opportunities. It will include advise on the development and regenerative potential of assets held by clients. advising clients on the development and regenerative potential of their asset bases.   A RICS planning and development surveying qualification is preferred but is not essential.

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities

These  include:  
Assisting in, and where appropriate leading on, winning new work through competitive tender processes;
Providing advice on local and national markets;
Managing town centre and urban regeneration masterplanning including co-ordination of sub-consultant inputs where required;
Undertaking viability analysis;
Conducting development appraisals;
Leading and supporting on large procurement/regeneration projects;
Overseeing and producing strategic property reports;
Providing project management skills; and Responding to enquiries in a timely manner.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience

This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual to join this specialist and successful team. You should be commercially focused, have an excellent track record of delivery and be happy working both independently and as part of a team. Our desired or preferred knowledge, skills and experience for this role include the following:  
Experience of residual appraisals and cashflows with Excel/Prodev/Argus Developer; Knowledge of affordable housing; An excellent understanding of valuation principles (although Registered Valuer Accreditation is not essential);
Knowledge of partnering arrangements including OJEU procurement;
Ability to undertake property due diligence on developer submissions in relation to  public sector partnering, investment and/or land disposals;
An ability to undertake soft market testing with potential developers and investors: Good knowledge of the town planning system;
Excellent communication and client interfacing skills;
An aptitude for line management and mentoring;
An appetite for networking and preparation of thought leadership and commentary pieces;
An eye for business development and client relationship management;
An ability to work under pressure and to be adaptable to changing client requirements; and Good IT skills.
